Date: 21-04-2026 Brazil Delays ‘Bet da Caixa’ Sportsbook Launch Despite $30M License
Caixa Econômica Federal has postponed the launch of its planned sportsbook platform “Bet da Caixa” to 2027, despite paying R$30 million for a federal betting license. The project, initially planned ahead of the FIFA World Cup, was halted following pressure from the Palácio do Planalto.
Led by Caixa president Carlos Vieira, the initiative aimed to generate R$18 billion within two years and help curb illegal gambling. The suspension is under review by the Tribunal de Contas da União as Brazil tightens betting regulation, including blocking 900,000 social benefit recipients from gambling platforms.
